Thoughts on Brisk Walking

When I think of how hard it was to push myself to walk when I started brisk walking in April 2012 and how I feel now, two things have changed within me:

  • no muscle pain (gastrocnemius muscles);
  • I can walk longer distances (two 90 minute walks same day);
  • I feel happier and relaxed after the workout (increase in serotonin levels in the body); and
  • I can cycle longer distances without muscle pain.

Okay that’s four! I was thinking about them as I go along.

Any turning points in my diet?

  • as I look at what I ate for the day and want to eat something else, I look at what I have eaten and changed my mind;
  • my mind grabs water more often than it grabs sweets;
  • I know which take out foods contain the highest percentage of fat. I may still eat these foods but  now that I don’t crave them, I won’t be having them; and
  • my cravings are under control. Awareness of what I’m eating by writing them down has helped me a lot.
